Q:  What is a Chemical Peel? A: Chemical peels are treatments using Alpha Hydroxy Acids to minimally remove dull, damaged dead skin cells, revealing healthy new skin underneath.

Q: What kinds of issues can be treated with a chemical peel? A: Chemical peels can be used to treat an array of cosmetic issues including:

• acne

• scars

• lines and wrinkles

• skin discoloration

• uneven skin tone or texture

• age-related issues and sun damage

Q: How will they know which chemical peel to use on me, and which chemical peels do you use? A: At Brick Canvas Spa, our Estheticians are trained and certified in Advanced Chemical Peels and Facial Exfoliation. the day of your appointment, they will consult with you to assess and analyze your skin for a solution to best meet your goals.

The Chemical Peels we use are:

• 5-Berry Pigment Control Peel: Contains 7% TCA, 5 natural berries with powerful tyrosinase-inhibiting and anti-oxidant properties 

• Chocolate Power Skin Rescue Peel: Contains 50% Lactic Acid, Reservatol, Cocoa Extract, Acai Berry

• Vitamin A Professional Power Peel: Contains 10% TCA, 10% Glycolic, 5% Retinol

• Sal-X 20: Contains 20% Salicylic Acid

• TCA 15%: Contains 15% Trichloroacetic Acid

Q: Can I make an appointment NOW for a chemical peel? A: Absolutely! Below are a few things you need to know before your first appointmenT:

• Are you currently using any AHAs, Retinols, Renova, or Retin-A? Any of these need to be discontinued 1 week prior to your appointment.

• Are you currently on Accutane? This needs to be discontinued 6 months prior to the appointment. While being on Accutane, your skin is extremely sensitive.

• Have you had any electrolysis or waxing within the last week? If so, we will need to schedule your appointment one week following any of these services.

• Are you prone to cold sores? If so, you may want to be aware that a chemical peel can and most likely will trigger an outbreak. Please be prepared with a prescription given by your doctor.

• Are you currently suntanning your face or an active sun exposer? If so, please refrain from UV exposure of any type while undergoing a chemical peel regimen. Your skin will be much more sensitive to the peel, so we recommend avoiding ALL UV exposure 2 weeks prior to your appointment. 

Q: How long does the appointment take?  A: It's a 60-minute appointment Including consultation, education, and service.

Q: Do chemical peels hurt? what should I expect?  A: Because chemical peels are noninvasive, they are not meant to be painful. However, with any kind of exfoliating treatment, there can be mild to moderate discomfort depending on what peel the Esthetician professionally recommends for you. Our Estheticians will adjust to fit your comfort needs.

Q: If I get a chemical peel, will I need to change my current skincare routine? A: The only thing you absolutely need to make sure you are using is a sufficient Broad Spectrum Sunscreen, one that protects both UVA & UVB. Getting a chemical peel with insufficient sunscreen can cause damage to your newly peeled skin. 

Q: What if I forget what to do after I get my chemical peel? A: No worries. Our Esthetician will make sure all your questions are answered as well as send you home with a post-Treatment info sheet to refer to. Just call if you need anything. 

Q: I really want to book an appointment for a chemical peel, but I'm going on vacation this summer and will include some sun time, what should I do? A: You will need to refrain from direct sun exposure (of your face) for 2 weeks prior to your chemical peel due to hypersensitivity, and refrain from direct sun exposure of your face for 3 weeks after your chemical peel to allow for healing time prior to your vacation.
